happy new year from hollywood.

2009. big year? there's a lot of talk about 2009.

my friends and i keep talking about it. its going to be a big year. focus. direction. maybe its just coz we've all realised we're all twenty something and can't pretend to be students any more. actually i know loads of students my age so maybe that's not true. but anyway we've decided its a year with no time for time wasters. you're not here that long so stop faffing about. that kind of thing.

tips. tips. tips. tips for 2009. what does that even mean? when i think of tips i think PG. milk and sugar please.

the future. 'this time next year' is a scary phrase. who knows? we might not even be here this time next year. the hadron collider might have had us all swallowed up. or summit.

a few months ago i met a psychic when i was drunk in new york. ok not the most reliable situation i know. she said february and march there were going to be big changes in my life. mind you, she also said i'd met my soulmate and that i'm going to get married when i'm 27 and have three children. she then proceeded to sell me a magic crystal, which i was obviously nearly did but thankfully someone dragged me away.

anyway i'm rambling. its nearly 9pm in hollywood on a monday night, my body thinks is 5am tuesday morning. thankfully i'm not staying at the plastic hotel again, although there have been numerous sightings already. i went to the gym this morning, its 24 hour, of course. i had jet lag so went down there at 8am expecting it to be deserted, there were already 3 girls hard at it. who are these people?? i don't have the self discipline. so far i've had salad and apples but it'll never last, i like pancakes and mexican food far too much. mmmm pancakes.

ok i'm gonna go try do some writing. last chance to finish off the album, i just want it to be as good as i possibly can... so yeah should really get my head down. current album influences playlist:

here's something i did last christmas in my parents' garage.

what a difference a year makes.

when i think back to sitting freezing writing songs that are now going to be on my first album its almost incomprehensible.

thank you to any one who has listened, written, watched, come to a gig, told a friend, taken a picture, shared a link, downloaded a song be it legally or otherwise... everyone who has supported me in any way whatsoever this year, i wouldn't be making music without you so thank you from the bottom of blackpool tower to the furthest stars in the cosmos....

ok i'll stop being epic now.

go and get pissed, eat quality street and fall asleep watching love actually.

...well from a bus somewhere between milan and naples.

this is my mini cave bed where i've been spending a lot of time lately. let's take a closer look...

yep that's a double whammy of fantasy wolf blanket and horse pillow. i like to feel at home when i travel.

anyway we are nearly at the end of the vice tour.. ok so that's a bit of a lie coz i wrote this the other day and now i'm back, but so far we've been to hamburg, berlin, stuttgart and milan... been loads of fun we're on a huge bus lots of night driving my body clocks kind of messed up... its not really a rock and roll bus more coach holiday styles if u get what i mean...

but i guess that's coz there's kind of a lot of us... thunderheist, cocknbullkid, micky moonlight and all the vice crew and whoever else wants to come along for the ride... all the days and places have gone into a bit of a blur but all the gigs have been totally banging big thanks to everyone who came and partied with us....

hi kids

i just got back from rotterdam, where they have crazy things like this... well i say just got back i think that was yesterday, i was DJing at a festival there super late and was pretty tired so my manager and I stayed in our hotel and watched four weddings & a funeral in dutch (we had subtitles phew) and x factor semi final online... can't believe baby face teenage body eggnog boy crying his eyes out... surely will go down in the greatest moments of reality tv history (coz there's been so many...)

sooooo this week was mean to to be my "writing" week but surprise surprise that disappeared... but i did do some cool stuff... went to see this crazy new electronic instrument apparently was one of the first 20 people in the world or something... recorded some acoustic tracks with the help of the lovely Jas 'On' Shaw from SMD... did a remix aka completely annihailated someone elses song, oops...sorry, had an interview with peaches at my house, she wore little boots especially... got my hair dyed, got my ass kicked at gym, and today just went to blackpool to do a big interview, unfortunately it was pissing it down and freezing so couldn't exactly hit the beach but we went to a few old school places i used to gig at and stuff, and along the way i purchased THIS:

seriously this shop is amazing, its been in blackpool town centre as long as i can remember and basically half of it sells cushions and sweatshirts with different breeds of dogs (you can pick any you like, they have other animals too..) and the other half of the shop sells fetish wear. i mean serious, pvc nurses costumes, cat suits, suspenders, the works. its such a weird combo, maybe people who are into fetish stuff are also really into dogs, like that's the two sides of their personality? so they think, oh i'll just pop to the shop and buy a gimp mask, oh and that's a nice yorkshire terrier tea cosy i'll get that too? or people who go there for the dog stuff, then get a bit curious and come out with nipple tassles?? god i just don't know. anyway, its possibly my favorite shop ever. xmas presents sorted all round... well if you're not into one you'll hopefully be into the other....

Word up...

So Automatic Lovers Tour is over, it was so much fun and all the gigs were either sold out or not far off, thank you millions to everyone who made it I'm going to do a proper blog about it when I've uploaded all my pictures.

Anyway for now Happy 1st of December, its starting to smell like Christmas.... keep your eye on the youtube covers I may start knocking out a few shockers... but for now here is a free download of my Minimix for Annie Mac's show on Radio 1 last week, its a bit silly but I kind of thought that was more fun than trying to show off how many songs you can fit in 5 minutes... so yeah here u go!

So we're kind of half way through the Automatic Lovers tour... I'm not going to go into tons of detail as you can catch up with that over on my blog at NME.com, but so far all the gigs have been sold out or not far off and its been so much fun, its great when you try and do something a bit different and everyone works really hard to see it pay off.

Brighton was at Digital with Annie Mac and Fake Blood... so much fun wish we could have stayed longer. London at the ICA... can't believe it was sold out! Thank you so so much everyone came and made it a brilliant night, had so much fan afterwards dancing to Cocadisco DJs till the early hours... a million apologies to people who couldn't get in, it wasn't our fault the venue were just very strict with numbers. Then Newcastle... can't believe how far some people traveled, thank you! And we saw snow... and spent a long time in a van, but it was worth it.

SOOOOOO come to manchester or leeds if you can??? Last UK gigs before 2009 !!!

Then WHO KNOWS what's gonna happen..... no really, i have no idea...... some days i'm super excited..... some days i wanna be sick..... gonna go play some piano now..... debussy mmmmmm could be love

New song up at myspace, sorry its late I had problems with uploading it wotevz... anyway its called LOVE KILLS and is actually a cover of a song by Giorgio Moroder and Freddie Mercury taken from the soundtrack of an 80s film called 'Metropolis'... anyway I totally fell in love with it and combined with the shock of finding a Moroder song I hadn't actually heard of decided to do a cover of it, produced by Kid Gloves. Hope you like it! We're going to be playing live on the AUTOMATIC LOVERS TOUR... fun times.

Had the weirdest experience the other day, I went back to Blackpool with a photographer to do a shoot for the cover of The Fader magazine coz I thought would be really cool to do it in my hometown and stuff... anyway we were on the way back on the last train to London when the train stopped for ages just outside Milton Keynes. Next thing a whole bloody bomb squad of police guys got on with a huge alsation sniffer dog and started going up and down the carriages, no one had a clue what was going on was well scary. Then there was an announcement that they were arresting someone under the anti-terror laws and that the doors were sealed and no one could leave the train! I was totally freaking that there was a bomb and all sorts... loads of thoughts were racing through my head about if this was the end... I've basically watched far too many episodes of Spooks.... anyway eventually I never saw the police leave but we carried on and found out that someone had sat down IN OUR CARRIAGE and shown a guy opposite him a gun and said 'I'm going to shoot this train up, no one's getting off', so the other guy called the police and somehow they got him. But was pretty bloody scary anyhow!!!

Anyway the shoot was great we went on the beach it was super windy but just enough sun to make a rainbow... can't wait to see the photos. Better go to rehearsals... just a quick thank you to all the new people who have messaged me in some way or another to say they enjoyed the Jools Holland show hope you keep coming back... and thanks to all the old school people too! I was really touched by all the messages its great to see that people appreciate me trying to do something different. In case you missed it someone uploaded it to youtube (thanks!) so here you go...

Life ambition complete. Seriously. Some people seem to find the fact that I am THE BIGGEST KILLERS FAN EVER slightly amusing lately, I cannot comprehend why. Last night, at Jools Holland, I met Brandon Flowers. I was totally star struck. We all had to have a picture with Jools and he came over and shook my hand and said 'Hi I'm Brandon' and seriously I couldn't speak. I made some lame comment about the feathers on his jacket and he said something about animal rights then I just felt embarrassed and shut up.

I also met the drummer who was lovely and said he really liked my song (!)

So as you can probably guess already was a pretty big night. Even if I had practiced a zillion times and totally got rid of my cold nothing could have prepared me, but was a completely amazing opportunity and experience and today I feel kind of spaced out that I even did it.

I even got a badge saying I'd been on, a bit like Blue Peter... genius. My parents came down all the way from Blackpool for the show and did lots of clapping along to Al Green (who was obv a complete legend), and my mum even said she liked Pendulum and that they had a 'mean beat'.

So tune in on Friday night on BBC 2 or check out BBC iPlayer next week if you wanna watch... I played 'Meddle' on Jools' piano with my Stylophone and Tenori-on... probably the scariest thing I've ever done!

Right now there's a million fireworks going off outside... Tomorrow morning we go to Hamburg to play show should be fun... then maybe I'll come home and sleep??

Almost forgot to put new song up today I'm so bad with Mondays... its called 'Every Little Earthquake' and sounds pretty bloody epic already and isn't even finished yet.. its a bit of a complicated songs influenced by a few things and experiences not really as personal as usual more about other people... but guess its kind of about not rising to arguments and maybe just letting things go and being the bigger person, often it makes your position stronger in the long run, something like that... and i liked the imagery of catching earthquakes! So yeah hope u like it...

But anyway, NEW YORK! I know, its been well over a week since I got back and have hardly posted anything... truth is I had an amazing time but was very intense and I got really ill and have been kind of exhausted ever since, but on the road to recovery now after lots of vitamin drinks and nutritious soups mmm.

finally got to see my name in big letters!

then was quite tired so had a lie down in central park.

RIP: BARRY THE WOLF. SEPT - OCT 2008

a tragedy has occured amongst our ranks.

last night, whilst sitting loyally on stage at our halloween gig at Cargo, barry the wolf was grabbed and furthermore dropped by a member of the audience, consequentially smashing him into a zillion pieces.

barry has been on stage with us since the 3rd gig back on 26th September and his presence will be sorely missed at all forthcoming performances. during his short time with us he brought hope and conversation to many a drunken crowd member. more than a mascot, barry was a true companion, albeit made of fibre glass.

barry, i sense you noble gaze watching over us as we continue to tour... a bit like mufasa in the lion king... you are in our thoughts.

"Leading up to her performance at the Levi's®/FADER Fort NYC, we'd heard many things about Little Boots' preparations to take her bedroom Tenori-On cutefest to the people. But nothing quite prepared us for the real deal star-in-the-making that hit the stage in long heels and blue sequins. It's a little hard to tell in this video, but she did it big, like she wasn't just standing in front of a bunch of Bass-,Sparks- and SoCo-persuaded New Yorkers who may or may not have known who she was. As a bonus for those who do know he she is, this video is her performing a new song called "Click."

Speaking of new songs I put a new one up on myspace this week called 'Ghost'... its halloween... see what I did there??... which I recorded with Jas from Simian Mobile Disco... he's the best for synth nerd outs... anyway hope u like, we kind of did this death march drum beat that I thinks pretty cool...

Ok gotta go in the middle of gettin my hair done... think my stylist has gone to get pies from gregs... SO what i need right now... full of flu/ cold/ exhaustion and got a gig later... HALLOWEEN TONIGHT! GET SPOOKY!!!

Thanks so much to everyone who liked Mathematics!! I have to admit its one of my favourites I think... anyways I have taken it down (*sheds a solitary tear*) but its been replaced with another track called 'New In Town' (*turn to tear of joy... ok maybs not quite*).

I wrote this track quite a while ago, its probably one of the most 'pop' sounding tracks I've done...'cool' is so last year... so yeah I wrote it when I was out in Los Angeles on my own, which is a pretty strange place to be on your own, even though its so big it can be really isolating. I was there for nearly a month and hardly knew anyone and was going a bit crazy trying to write 'HITS' all the time so started going to bars at night by myself, which is kind of dark, especially in another country when you're very obviously an out of towner with a northern english accent that makes all americans think you're from new zealand. so anyways i'd sit at the end of a bar somewhere staring at my drink, not sure if i was praying for someone to talk to me or the earth swallow me up... but most of the time someone would start chatting to me and end up being pretty cool and would maybe show me around a few places... other times they were creepy perverts so i'd just get the hell out of there... but you get the idea. And the song New In Town is just really about that, being in a strange place, relying on strangers and it being a little bit dark but in the end maybe having a really good time! So yeah, enjoy?? Lemme know what u think....

In other news I will be doing a blog every day this week over at NME.com mostly from New York where we are going to play CMJ Festival.... AMAZING! but I will keep some bits and put them up here for all the purists.

today has been a weird day.

i had my first proper day off in what feels like forever and i just didn't know what to do with myself.... i woke up at 8am and couldn't get back to sleep so got up and just felt really down all day... can't explain why its weird, not really about anything in particular... guess i just worry about everything too much and when i stop there's so many things going on in my head i just can't relax. not great.

anyways i have totally nothing to complain about, had a really great reaction to the new song i put up... mixmag is out this week which i'm on the cover of... kind of scares me seeing things like that... i played some debussy and beethoven today... and actually sat at the piano and attempted to write for the first time in ages, felt good. also totally addicted to new britney video... square eggs... fucking genius!!! and SO SO pscyhed for playing CMJ in new york next week....

but last weekend we played our first international gig in BERLIN!

it was fun getting a plane and watching the polysix come through baggage reclaim.

it wasn't fun when we got it home and it didn't work anymore. but anyway, i digress.

i still have no camera but took some crappy snaps on my phone... here is kind of what happened...!

we got through airport security even with only one matching pair of socks between us...

saw epic berlin statues...

new song of the week: MATHEMATICS

hello again.

so i've got a few tracks sort of finished lately and have never been one for sitting on stuff so i've decided to put a new one up every week for the next month or so on myspace... they will be a bit of a mix, album tracks, demos, maybe even singles... but i'll put one up every monday and write a little blurb about it here. maybe if u let me know what u think then whatever everyone seems to like best i'll keep it up??

so the first one is a track called MATHEMATICS, which you can listen to now and all this week on my myspace player. at the time i was kind of thinking about how a lot of things just come down to numbers, even creative things like music and maybe even relationships and people you love..... things don't always add up how you'd like them too, stuff like that.... i was never very good at maths at school but i just remembered weird old words like fibonacci and pythagorus and thought would be cool to get them in a song... also it was inspired by a brilliant poem by Sylvia Plath called 'Love is a Parallax', especially the last line. Here it is for those unfamiliar...

'Perspective betrays with its dichotomy:
train tracks always meet, not here, but only
in the impossible mind's eye;

horizons beat a retreat as we embark
on sophist seas to overtake that mark
where wave pretends to drench real sky.'

'Well then, if we agree, it is not odd

hi strangers.

blogging is no fun without a camera and i've lost mine. i'm generally opposed to the use of smileys but i think this is definitely an appropriate circumstance to use :-(

a lot's happened in the last week or so.... i got so tired i felt sick with exhaustion but think i've kind of got a second wind now. not long after i wrote the last post we went to number one on the bloody hype machine! not quite sure how i feel about being most blogged artist in the world.... felt kind of wrong being above the killers since they're one of my fav bands ever.... what do u think of the new single?? i can't decide.

trying to remember what i've been up to... quite worrying that i need my google calendar open to even attempt this... since i have no pictures i'll try and use words then once i beg/ borrow/ steal pics off people's cameras and phones i will update.

UPDATE: I GOT SOME PICS!!!

PARIS... DJing at the JCDC party.... so posh... everything was gold/ marble/ silver/ glass/ diamonds... giant rubix cubes and dry ice... way to many bomnbay sapphire cocktails... wearing a ridiculous dress.... no sleep... losing passport... dark morning... throwing up on plane lots... struggling to get back in country...

wot else wot else.... more rehearsals.... went to the mix of some of the album tracks in a pretty slick studio.... sounding phat... DJd at Keane's album launch pretty funny... instructed to play nothing but 80s so went and bought TOTP compilation and stuck that on and got drunk... they had giant statues of the band members?? but was very nicely done.... had first london gig, i never get nervous and i was downstairs feeling sick and shaking?? think it was coz there were so many indos around, always gives me the creeps... but went fine then we got a bit silly and danced around to greco roman boys and skream's epic disco set... sick! wot else... did a shoot for nylon with cheeky tom oxley... never known another northerner give me so much stick... good shots though... did a live session for MTV2 we got the wolf in and everything.... then wot else...

went over to NEWCASTLE...

really loving the live gigs now, we've only played a handful but it just feels so good getting out there and seeing people's reactions... then on to MANCHESTER to play In The City festival indo thing which I have to say seems better than ever before.... although pretty hilarious page for A&R men in the guide...

found a teepee with fire in it and free chocolate, always good....

saw a band in a van... then played 2 gigs in one night... one with ladyhawke.... pip likes nintendo... then the NME showcase...

chris officially became in charge of smoke and lasers so was looking pretty epic...

was pretty manic day but we managed it...

woke up with a hangover which lead me to...........

BLACKPOOL!!!!!!!!!!!!! i missed my dogs. and my family. its raining but its good to be home being fed lots.

tonight we are back in manchester then down to london through the night... think there will be some epic guitar hero battles in the van...

this week's been kind of intense.

played live for the first time. was weird being back out there.... once i stop worrying so much about technology i remember what an amazing thing it is to be doing.

i had a chat with the lovely sam richards after the first show in brighton, you can check it out here...

i'm quite impressed with the space dolphin noise translation.

today i had more rehearsals and interviews and did a shoot for OMMMMM but i lost my camera so lucky for you there's not a million pictures... instead here is a funtimes cover i did the other day, i've been getting a lot of requests for it so thought i'd give it a whirl although in retrospect i probably should've kids... you live and learn.

ok so admittedly its not my best, but its probably not my worst either.

its 2am. i'm shattered. i leave for paris in an hour and a half. boo hoo poor me i know. its been a weird week. a lot to think about. you think you have a plan, then it changes. you think you've got it all worked out then your hearts skipping and you don't know why... lol at self quotation i know. today in an interview i got asked when was the last time i felt like a real woman. i said i don't think i ever have. not that i feel like a fake woman. or a man. hmmm maybe it was a trick question???

so.

i've seen a lot of thin people this week. painfully thin.

i makes me think... makes me worry... last night it took two grown men nearly 15 minutes to zip me into my dress.

ok so it was a size 4 but still... we are shooting the video in a few weeks, think my only option is serious crash diet.

it doesn't really matter what everyone else says, or however many magazine have changed their tune to now say its ok to be 'normal' (aka a bit chubby), i still feel under massive pressure about it and pretty sure a lot of other people do.

in LA most people are thin. crazy thin, like skeletal. but generally it looks kinda hot...

the girls there are kind of effortlessly thin, all brown skin and blonde hair like they just popped out of the womb already like that.

i flew out there on thursday to play nocturnal festival, which is basically californian creamfields but maybe bigger.

i got back monday morning with the biggest jet lag, landed at 10am so all hopes of making the Luella show at 10.30 were dashed. was a pretty spaced out day my body clock is still totally screwed and had to DJ at albert hall that night pretty mad, cocknbullkid played and was sick as usual. (that's good sick, obv).

then think i've been in rehearsals ever since... oh except last night went to the marie claire 20th birthday thing.

there were also a lot of thin people at this. in london thin is different, london thin looks like you've really worked for it... skin looks kind of tight and its usually slightly more muscular than the skeleton style LA thin and not as soft, kind of harsher and more attention seeking if that makes any sense... i couldn't actually breathe/ sit down/ go near stairs the entire night due to completely suffocating dress but soon forgot thanks to free champagne... thank you v much marie claire

hi y'all.

so i'm in LA staying at my friend paul's... managed to avoid the plastic hotel this time. forgot my camera cable so can't upload pics till i get back so you'll have to use your imagination. today is press day, its 3 o'clock and i've already spent most of the day talking about myself... no change there then, jokez.

i flew in from heathrow last night, lowlights of the flight include:

below average plane food

watching sex and the city the movie and being embarrassed to be a woman

being trapped in window seat by 2 old italian women with epic card game going on preventing me going to the toilet for hours at a time

i also started freaking out that i was flying to america on september 11, i'm scared of flying anyway... then started imagining that the hadron collider had made big black holes and we were flying into them... or that it had made one that swallowed the earth but because we were in the plane we missed it so we just had to keep flying until we died or something.... well dark

highlight was definitely listening to new ashlee simpson album though, very fucking good.

so yeah that was gripping, when i got here i was a total plane wreck, we went for thai food (in a pretty fantasy restaurant, impressive) and i nearly fell asleep at the table... today is better though, i have 2 more interviews, one involves vintage shopping so all good, then radio shows later and tomorrow i play nocturnal fesitival, if you are in california COME! i'm on the electrodome stage at 9.30 i think. i'm trying to get paul to dress up as a rave kid with me but i don't think he's into it??! maybe we could dress up as dolls instead, i'm pretty pro at that one now...

ok gonna go will keep this updated with plastic sightings and unevents....

hello.

its monday, i would do a cover but i've left all my synths in the studio, honest. pretty intense rehearsals, between watching it bites and level 42 videos on youtube interspersed with synth nerd outs and excessive tea drinking its pretty hardcore. for instance this is what we did yesterday...

can't sleeeeeeeeeeeep....... was just looking through some photos and has been quite a weird week when i look back... between djing at creamfields, going to blackpool and back, doing recording days in studio, rehearsals for live show, finishing mixtape, photoshoots, interviews, hateful gym and still managing to get my hair bleached, get drunk and call my mum about 3 times a day has been a bit manic to say the least.

i have a little itunes playlist of possible album tracks. every week i update it replacing old demos with new ones and its now got to the stage where there's quite a lot. whether or not they're good enough i don't know. i don't even know what's good any more. is it too this or too that blah blah... does anyone actually give a shit as long as they're good songs??? i go round and round in my head with this stuff.... sometimes i feel sick to my stomach and start going crazy worrying about it all... some days i'm so happy and inspired i want to explode and scream down every street and breathe in everything i see and touch and turn it into songs..... ok i'm starting to sound like the sound of fucking music now or something... but yeah you know what i mean. ok i'll stop talking crap now and post some pictures...

i got in some magazines this week. like ones that you can even get in sainsburys in blackpool. that made my mum happy. i did some photoshoots, one was for one of the sunday papers which you can also get in blackpool so maybe even my dad will be happy (hmmm that'll be the day), and one for mixmag with loads of other people, was my first cover so pretty exciting... don't u think it looks a bit like some kind of crazy disco football team shot??

then decided to go party with some of the press girlies... i don't remember much except miniture hamburgers and waking up fully dressed with flowers in my hair??

Massive thanks to Annie Mac for putting me on... had a bit of a mental ride up, Vince Frankmusik and I shared a lift but there was tons of bank holiday traffic so prob shouldn't admit to this but our driver spent half the time bombing up the hard shoulder with us shitting it in the back!! But he got us there just about on time. Here's us after the show...
