    THIS WEEK'S STUFF!

stuff this week that has been deemed....

    GOOD

    RIDICULOUS MEALS

had literally the most amazing meal ever this week at Viajante, it was more like art than food. The best part was when we were asked what meat we were eating, to which we were told 'Watermelon'.

    COCKNBULL KID DOING 90s

our lovely friend is anita is back with amongst other things an excellent cover of rui da silva's 'touch me' (sure i have a vague memory of dancing round my bedroom with her to this circa 2008). anyway check it out and keep an eye out for new stuff at www.myspace.com/cockbullkid (NB NO 'THE' ANYMORE!)

    iPAD!

so beautiful. so pointless. didn't need, just wanted. like all the best things in life.

    WONDERFUL VIDEO

we like Hurts a lot and here is their new video for 'Wonderful Life' (although please can you hurry up and release stay and/ or silver linings SOON!). if ony reality was this slick.

    TREASURE HUNT!

our favourite record label ever (well they did release The Lodger back in the day) has made music history by being the first label to release via the format of buried treasure. we're sure all the major labels are going to catch on and soon you'll only be able to get sugababes albums by drilling under the sea or something, but for now all the info on how to find it (or just buy it if you are not in the mood for digging) is here.

    BAD(ish)

    INCEPTION OVERKILL

why is everyone freaking out about this film so much?? does no one else think it was an hour and a half too much of leo doing a bad james bond impression in the matrix?? obvs not...

    1-2-3-4-BANG

we went to nathan-barley-the-festival last weekend, mainly to see these new puritans, who managed to get about 4 seconds into their set before the soundsystem blew up. rubbishness.

    UGLY

    NO MORE BRITISH FILM COUNCIL

some people are trying to say this is a good thing but one of the people who said this didn't think trying to recreate four weddings was a good idea, so we'll just have to agree to disagree.

ok its the weekend..........pls don't rain........... BYE!

It is a shame that the powers that be have decided to ditch the UK film council. Surely seems like a backwards step for british film making in the end :[ x

    this week's good/ bad/ ugly

    GOOD!

    YOGA

Its official, we're back on the yoga. The words 'dog', 'face' and 'down' will never sound the same again.  Legwarmers optional.

    KLAXON'S NEW ALBUM

Pretty loud. Pretty weird. Pretty bloody good.

If you are a fan its worth checking out Jamie Reynold's reading list in this weeks NME to accompany the album.

    YOUNG BLOOD

This is literally the best foundation I have found in aaages... all their products are mineral based so your face feels like a beautiful precious stone.... or maybe that's just my interpretation.

    ANNA PRIOR'S BANANA LOAF

(Please note this was not anna's actual loaf, hers was much better looking)

When not being a superstar drummer for Metronomy and Primary 1, Anna is also an excellent baker! Here is her recipe *warning* this is extremely addictive

    Banana Tea Bread

    225g SR Flour
    1/4 teaspoon Bicarb
    pinch salt
    75g Butter
    175g Caster sugar
    2 eggs, beaten
450g bananas weighed with skin, peeled and mashed.
    100g Walnuts, chopped (optional)

    1. Heat oven 180c (Gas 4). Grease and line the loaf tin.

    2. Mix together flour, bicarb and salt.

    3. Cream the butter and sugar until pale and fluffy, add the eggs a little at a time alternately with the flour.

    4. Stir in the remaining flour, bananas and walnuts, place in the prepared tin and bake for about 1 1/4 hours.

    5. Cool on a wire rack

    Easy!

    BAD!

    POLO FAIL

Getting so drunk at polo we forgot our own names and all fell asleep in the car home. This is what happens when you allow northerners into posh events (disclaimer: only two thirds of the above are actually northern)

    COINCIDENCE?

Katie Price arriving at her wedding in a replica A team van on her reality show, followed by an advert in the commercial break two minutes later for the new A team movie. Hmm...

    UGLY!

    MERCURY FAIL

These New Puritans not being nominated for the Mecury music prize. One of the few fitting moments in life to use the emoticon ;-(

Ok that was my week in stuff, its friday now so ENJOY THE WEEKEND ! x

loving all the updates! love you! love your music! always good to hear from you! and loved the news on cocknbullkid, but just wanted to point out that in the myspace link for anita, you accidentally left out the 'n' in cocknbullkid, so it leads to a myspace for cockbullkid (instead of cocknbullkid) which leads to just a broken link/error - if you get a chance, repost with the 'n' in the myspace link (http://www.myspace.com/cocknbullkid) so others can check out anita's phenomenal music if they're not familiar with her (particularly my friends in the states here who don't follow amazing UK music like yours and anita's! best! :)

    REMIX COMPETITION AT LAST!!

    hi folks

so please accept mine and all at boots hq apologies for the remix competition to tak SOOOOO long i finally being announced, but i hope everyone who took part enjoyed it and everyone who didn't enjoys listening to the results, i think more than anything its just a great way for people to be creative and share their output with others. in other words as old people always say, ITS THE TAKING PART THAT COUNTS.

anyway we are please to announce the winner was by SuperNoir which you can listen to by clicking HERE but you can listen to ALL the remix entries below (if i've embedded it right) or on the soundcloud page. enjoy and thanks everyone who took part, hopefully we can do it again (a lot quicker!) in future!!

    Little Boots Remix Competition

in other remix news, our partners in crime LOVERS & GAMBLERS have got a couple of new remixes up, including one of Young Fathers (which you can buy now on iTunes) and my favourite one yet of our tour mates Class Actress. To listen click the ace of base artwork that we will one day photoshop all of our heads onto (although to be fair there's not actually that much work needed!)

    • Kevvy 11.08.2010 @ 03:27:38AM

Hmmm... it still looks like the winner is the Mortals Aftershock Mix though on that Soundcloud set (it's highlighted at the top of the list, with a massive waveform and all, just waiting for someone to press play - whereas the winner just gets a link on the easily skimmed word "here"). That and the headline "Remix Competion At Last" are the main things that stand out, creating a flase connection.

You can also embed individual tracks from Soundcloud as well. Might be a good idea to do that with the wining entry, above the embedded set., so that there's no doubting which the winner is ;-) Possibly a bit too much too late now though...

    • allesredukt 05.08.2010 @ 05:57:31AM

I dig this song so much that I'm actually enjoying hearing it over and over in all these different versions. I can't say that about most remix compilations I've heard. This deserves an official release if there hasn't been one.

    • Kevvy 04.08.2010 @ 12:33:45PM

Good to see the Soundcloud player cleaned up, with all the irrelevant stuff removed. Nice :-)

    • Kevvy 27.07.2010 @ 15:47:53PM

About time! Do something about the listed Soundcloud tracks though. You've embedded it right, but obviously paid no attention to what it contains!

Don't know if you've noticed, but hardly ANY of the ones that can be seen without scrolling are actually remixes of your song - they're remixes (probably bootlegs) and tracks submitted SINCE THE CLOSING DATE by people hijacking ("spamming") your competion in shameless self-promotion. And people are still doing it! Preventing people from being able to submit tracks might have been a good idea, though I don't know if you can do that in Soundcloud.

So now (at the time of writing), the person who only uploaded a mix just 4 days ago, is highlighted at the top of the list and looking to all intents and purposes like they're the winner. Someone I've spoken to already thinks that is the case!

      Just looks a shambles.

PS - What was the prize in the end?

    JUST BECAUSE I'M BUSY...

    hello everyone

just wanted to clear a few things up i keep getting asked regarding me disappearing off planet earth. i suppose in some respects i have... but i think after what my body and brain went through last year i don't really see any reason not to. basically my favourite thing in the entire universe is writing songs and i just find that very hard to do unless i am still (i have tried writing on planes/ buses with korg nanos and other miniture musical items but ultimately failed). also it had been such a long time since i properly sat down and wrote songs i couldn't even remember if i could still do it, and needed to regain some of my sanity and go back into music mode, get back that feeling and rush the challenge of trying to make perfect pop songs always gave me.  To be honest our touring finished in April with Coachella festival, which is only three months ago so I don't really feel I've been gone that long, and I am working as hard and as quickly as I possible can! so give a girl a break!

so here is what i'm doing. I get up at 7.30, make some coffee then go to the gym for an hour or go running. then i go up to my little make shift studio/ writing room in the roof of the house and see what comes in my head. then i bash it out on the piano or some keyboards and start singing on it. some days i can't think of anything and sort my garden out or bake something to clear my head. some days i'm so physically ridiculously excited about the fact that i make music that i just can't stop writing and start about ten ideas (and probably finish 2). some days i'll read something horrible about me somewhere and want to cry and give up and elope to a desert island. some days i'll crave touring like a weird addiction and can't sit still or settle. some days i lie on the floor and listen to records or listen to radio 4 and chain drink tea. but most of the time i'm writing... writing writing writing, as much as i possibly can. and when its ready, you can hear it i promise! but not till its ready....

its glastobury this weekend, which makes me think about this time last year. i remember the cameras and my whole body feeling like it was on fire and my mum crying from the side of the stage for the whole set. and all those people! god. and by the end of the summer it felt like second nature. strange what you can acclimatise yourself to. i'm not playing any festivals this year, which i'm actually very happy about,  i think 30 is enough for anyone for one year! i played the isle of wight last weekend, thank you everyone who came and sang along. it was just me and the piano which always feels a bit strange, like it only works if the people watching really know the songs and love the album... otherwise i worrry the interpretation doesn't make sense... but i've played the songs so many times i enjoy reinventing and reinterpreting them like that, it keeps the musician in me working. that's kind of another reason i'm glad to have stopped touring for a while, without new material i almost felt like the show couldn't get any bigger, not to the size i wanted it to be and felt it needed to be without having some new songs and some time for reflection and reassessment. sometimes i do miss it... REALLY miss it... but i like to work to extremes, so i'm gonna cram myself so full of studio and writing and creative time that by the end of it i'll literally be desperate to tour, and all that energy bottled up will get unleashed! well that's the plan anyway.

so sorry if i'm being boring, i hate telling fans i meet lately there is nothing on the near horizon for them to hear or come to yet, but it is coming... please hold out for me... i appreciate you all so much, and on the days it all gets a bit much knowing there's people out there that give a shit really keeps me going.

i don't know where this rant has come from apologies... enjoy the sunshine... water your plants!

    vic x

Oh, don't worry at all, I knew that you would be busy writing.... we love you, and as much as we miss you, we know that when you come back you will be better than ever. Keep up the awesome work... and I can't wait for your next album [well, I will have to, but whatever]!! Love you love you love you love you :) And yes, you deserve a break!!!!!!!

And ignore those silly things people say about - they are tools. You are beyond brilliant - I still remember the day I discovered your music, it was that memorable. Your music blows me away, and they are fools if they can find anything wrong with you!!

And good work on the gym/running/ awesome-fitness !!

    • tomasbarao 28.07.2010 @ 17:20:33PM

      Oh, vic...
Don't worry! We will never be mad at you.
You deserve disappearing from Earth because you made an awesome work last year!
I can't wait to hear what comes...
      Take your time.

I often feel like you when composing!
BTW, don't care about the stupid things some people say about you. I never heard none of those things about you, and I don't think I will... :)

      We love you too!
      Keep busy your way.
      :D

    • KaseyCoff 26.07.2010 @ 22:29:06PM

Sounds like you're working away at it, kiddo - keep posting updates. I think I can speak for most of us when I say I appreciate you taking the time to blog what's happening with you. :-)

    • spunkymunkey 26.07.2010 @ 20:59:44PM

Do what you do, do it your way and keep on doing it. What got my attention about your music was the honesty in your compositions, you and your piano. If I can be so bold, I don't think it hurts on the days where creativity is not coming through, to listen to something and see if another song is waiting to be heard from another song or even just random noise. I believe there is a little bit of music in everything and hook lines can be heard the more one listens to everything around them.

    • abc1337 26.07.2010 @ 20:12:29PM

      Hi Boots,

I'm just doing my grade 5 theory, before embarking on my 6 Piano. Your utube clips were really inspiring, bearing in mind i only started 3 1/2 years ago. I especially liked the clip of you playing your upright with the drummer!

Good stuff takes time to come to fruition. I'm sure things will be brill. Also, enjoy some 'you' time!

    • SParky 24.07.2010 @ 18:18:10PM

Glad to hear that you have stopped for a bit, to rest up and take in the last year, it was an immense year for you and you worked hard, jetting across the globe and performing just about everywhere.

I know that you'll come back with some fantastic new songs and I am sorry that there are people out there who just want to put you down, you're amazing.

Look forward to hearing the new stuff when it's ready and Remedy is still in my top 5 songs of all time at the moment, it seems so long ago since I first heard it, has it really been that long?

    • jm 22.07.2010 @ 18:11:34PM

Looking back at your last year it's no wonder that you need sometime out of the limelight to actually be able to write again. You're my ultimate favorite artist and I'll just keep hands on repeat until the second album. Stay strong and remember that true fans will always stick by you. Good luck with everything :) xx

    • littleboots 22.07.2010 @ 12:40:31PM

    • andy909 08.07.2010 @ 23:17:02PM

      Hi Vic
Just read the blog - I am so missing you and your music this summer. You got me back into electronic music and going to gigs again at 45 years old last year and though I tinker with other bands (Ellie Goulding - short term fad, Chew Lips - actually I really like them), I really miss the Little Boots songs and the live shows. Come back to us with great new songs when you can, we are all waiting patiently because we really like it and cannot wait for new stuff. Just looking at your schedule last year was knackering so how it was to actually do it I can't imagine. Just come back when you can and blow our socks off!

    • FiveDollarShake 08.07.2010 @ 18:11:41PM

      Hi Victoria,
Hope you are enjoying the summer to its fullest (and properly recharging yr batteries - can't believe how much travelling you did for the last album - no wonder you need a proper break).
Don't worry, I'm sure the first album/bsides/remixes will sustain us for a while yet.
Plus, I'm sure there will be lots of exciting new tech/toys coming out in the next year, in time for some new shows!

PS - loving the 90s vibes (so many cool memories)

      Paul

No worries Bootsalicious: your fans will be here waiting for your next record, and we are a very patient bunch. I LOVE your message, because it's so you. Real, honest, down to earth, plant watering Boots. Keep it up (the writing, but also the plants hehe). Your debut record was a fun ride: and I am sure loads of cool stuff will be here in the future!

Enjoy the weather. Use sunscreen. Eat healthy. That kind of crap.

    • allesredukt 02.07.2010 @ 06:21:34AM

Hi, Kevvy. Being a fellow fan who's entered and lost a different remix contest before, I can understand your frustration, especially if you worked hard on your entry, but please try to keep in mind that Little Boots is just one woman. She works hard to be creative and keep us involved in her creativity -- the remix contest being a good example.

Sitting here Stateside, I can concede I was disappointed when Boots had to cancel her Atlanta gig on the last tour, but I also understand that there's a major worldwide recession going on. It's caught everyone in its grip, including pop stars, so not every project that got started a year or two ago shall be finished. That's a hard, harsh reality. Just think of all the people who've lost their jobs.

Besides all of these considerations, I think it's important to note that Victoria the person was asked to promote her album for over a year. That's a long time for one person to put her family, her friends, her private time, and her creative process on hold while she played the same batch of songs over and over to delight us fans. That's why I'm happy for her that she's getting some time for herself and the people in her life while she also makes time to craft some new tunes for us.

If you can, please accept my apology, for what it's worth from a fellow fan, that the remix contest might have gotten left by the wayside in the midst of everything. It wasn't fair to you, and it probably wasn't fair to Ms. Hesketh either that her fans were left disappointed. Such are the times. I'm just happy that someone like her exists and is doing her thing!

Let's all remain loyal and be patient so she can continue her career and we can look forward to her work in the future.

    • Kevvy 01.07.2010 @ 21:06:17PM

" i think after what my body and brain went through last year i don't really see any reason not to"

Here's a reason - you still haven't announced who, if anyone, has won the remix contest you held over six months ago (winner was meant to be announced later in February-March, according to your own nesletter. we're still waiting to hear which one you picked. So how about finish off the things you promised to do related to your last album before moving on to the next? Or is it true that the whole thing was just an explotative marketing scam?

    • Ghost19 30.06.2010 @ 20:35:32PM

      Hi Vic,

Thank you for the nice blog!
I'll wait as long as it takes for the new album.

I hope you'll come to Austria if you're back on tour with the new album :)

    • allesredukt 30.06.2010 @ 09:21:04AM

Thank you for giving us a peek into your life these days. You deserve a break, but it's great to hear you're working on new songs and getting a charge out of it. I'm looking forward to your next album and hoping you come to Atlanta on the next tour. Thank you for being you and doing what you do! Take care of yourself.

    • harry 30.06.2010 @ 00:30:52AM

      i love you

      thats all :)

    • Little Rick 28.06.2010 @ 15:23:06PM

Its nice to hear you are getting a little break after the amount of work you did last year. Us fans can wait. It will only make us appreciate the new stuff more when we finally get to hear it.

      xxx

    • Devil Dog 27.06.2010 @ 03:30:19AM

Vic take as long as you want, music is something that should not be rushed out the door for the sake of it.

We will all be here no matter how long it takes as we all are hooked:)

I was watching the scissor sisters at glasto today and they were talking about how they had seemed to disappear from the music scene for so long and how the fans had missed them.

Just drop us a blog now and then to keep us in the picture.

      Thanks for the update

      Adam
